Galestan Mackertich
Researcher
Galestan Mackertich obtained his B.S. in mechanical engineering and a M.S. in engineering science and mechanics from The Pennsylvania State University,
where he was also a member of Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Honor Society. His research focused on the development of a high temperature and
radiation hardened phased array ultrasonic transducer. Prior to joining Penn State and the CEARL group in 2019, he spent 2009 to 2018 in industry.
First as a mechanical engineer for a small antenna research and design firm specializing in low-profile and unmanned vehicle communication systems,
then as a senior mechanical engineer for an international design and manufacturing company specializing in phased array and single element ultrasonic
transducers for industrial non-destructive applications. As a senior mechanical engineer, he engaged with multiple groups to advance prototype ultrasonic
transducer development, as well as pursue novel manufacturing techniques and explore new materials for implementation in applications. He developed multiple
original ideas in the area of phased array ultrasonics and an innovative manufacturing technique was submitted for patenting.
