Philip O'Connor

Philip J. O'Connor was born and raised outside Kingston, NY. He is currently pursuing dual Bachelor's and Master's degrees in electrical engineering through the Penn State Schreyer Honors College. Philip first got involved in the CEARL as a sophomore in 2017 and has shadowed several different electromagnetics and antennas projects. Under the advising of Dr. Douglas H. Werner, Philip is currently researching machine learning methods for applications in antenna design, namely metamaterial antennas.

Philip's primary research interest is incorporating machine learning methods into engineering design across the domains of electrical engineering, and computational electromagnetics is a great domain for machine learning. Outside of research, Philip also enjoys creative writing through his English minor, hiking, and an evening full of board games.
